It would appear that Rupert just doesn’t get the internet. Anyone remember MySpace?

Sure, the Wall Street Journal online subscription service seems to have been successful, but think about the people buying it – they can afford it. I have already been driven away from news.com.au by the annoying, in your face advertising and shameless cross promotion of anything that is not news.

So why on earth would anyone want to pay for that? First thing is to make it advertising free, but then it still comes down to the quality of the content which, let’s face it, is sorely lacking on News Ltd’s tabloid websites.

Good luck Rupert. In my opinion you have just made an announcement that will greatly benefit every single one of your competitors.
