Optus customers have been unable to make or receive phone calls this morning after the telco giant confirmed a “major outage” affecting its network.
“We are currently experiencing a major outage,” the Optus website reads.
“Your mobile voice service may be interrupted. We apologise for any inconvenience caused to you during this time.”
Customers have taken to social media to complain about the outage, with some saying text messages do not appear to be affected.
A spokesperson assured customers “we’re aware of an issue impacting some Optus mobile customers’ ability to make voice calls”.
“We are investigating and working to restore services as a priority,” they continued.
“We understand connectivity is important and apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
Optus’ spokesperson later flagged that some NBN landline customers are also having issues making calls on their service.
“[We] are working to restore services asap,” the spokesperson continued.
It’s not clear whether it is related to an earlier notice to customers on the site which reads: “Due to further severe weather patterns, flooding and power outages across parts of New South Wales some Optus customers may experience disruptions to their mobile call, text, and data services.”
