Internet giant Yahoo will lay off 2,000 people in the United States, or 14% of its workforce, in in the latest round of job cuts as chief executive Scott Thompson prepares to implement his own vision throughout the company.

“The changes we’re announcing today will put our customers first, allow us to move fast, and to get stuff done,” Thompson said in a memo, according to Fairfax. He also said thechanges would make the company a “smaller, nimber, more profitable” organisation.

“We are intensifying our efforts on our core businesses and redeploying resources to our must urgent priorities.”

The announcement comes as Facebook has just announced it intends to sue Yahoo over various patents, just weeks after the internet giant launched a suit of its own.
