Microsoft is keen to convince Facebook to develop a phone based on Windows Phone 8 or Windows RT, rather than Android, according to new reports.
According to Business Insider, Microsoft is trying to convince Facebook to build its smartphones on its Windows Phone platform, rather than forking (using a copy of source code to develop a new, distinct piece of software) Google Android, as Amazon did with the Kindle Fire.
Business Insider cites sources within Microsoft who believe that development on a Facebook smartphone is advanced enough that it would not be able to switch to a Windows base.
The reports come after rumours resurfaced late last month that Facebook is working on a phone with handset manufacturer HTC, however those reports currently remain unconfirmed.
