Most of us don’t need any advice on how to waste time at work, but just in case, here are the top 10 best ways to do just that, courtesy of CNet:
1. Instant messenger: It’s like email, but quicker, easier, and because you just send a quick little message you don’t feel guilty. But it all ads up…
2. Social networks: Now just about accepted as a legit work networking tool, people feel even more liberated after quickly checking their social network profile. It almost is work.
3. News aggregators: The likes of Digg, Del.icio.us and even the humble Google Reader provide a non-stop flow of personally tailored news. Hard to resist.
4. YouTube: Hilarious, interesting, or just plain weird, a quick look at a YouTube video is hard to resist.
5. Online games: Solitaire was distracting enough, but now there is a whole web full of games to try.
6. Email: Once the leading office time-waster by far, superior work-avoidance technology has overtaking email in recent years.
7. Photos: Social networks or dedicated photo sites like Flickr mean you now have the equivalent of a pile of albums sitting on your desk. It would be rude not to peek.
8. Manual file searching: What did you do with that email from two weeks ago. Better look through your deleted emails folder… one by one.
9. Online music: Browsing through CDs at a record shop is one of life’s simple pleasures. Who wouldn’t want to indulge in the online version at work?
10. E-commerce: Once you’ve decided to buy an item on the likes of eBay, it can be hard to look away. You wouldn’t want to be outbid, after all.
