Spotify is set to launch an Australian version of the company’s streaming music product soon, according to a new interview provided by the company’s local director.
Former Google Australia executive Kate Vale is set to helm the venture, having been hired late last year, telling the Australian Financial Reviewย the launch is “imminent”.
“There are lots of reasons why Australia is of interest,” she told the publication. “Australia is the seventh-largest music market in the world, it has high smartphone penetration and high Facebook penetration and we’ve found in other markets when we have these three things, we tend to have great success.”
Vale also said the company’s largest competitor is music piracy, and noted the company had already registered tens of thousands of prospective users at its website, keen to see when new details of the local version would emerge.ย
