According to the survey of 41 analysts, Samsung is forecast to have sold 50 million smartphones during the second quarter, compared to 30.5 million sales of Apple iPhones.

Samsung is anticipated to have gained a boost by the release of its flagship Galaxy S3 smartphone during the quarter, along with the ability of its range to target lower-end price points.

In overall phone sales, analysts anticipate that Samsung has extended its lead over Nokia to 15.7 million handsets, up from a lead of 3.4 million last quarter.
