Samsung has announced that it is abandoning plans for a US launch of a tablet based on Microsoft’s Windows RT platform.

According to BGR, Samsung had planned to launch a 10.1-inch Windows RT tablet called the ATV Tab in the US this year.

However, the South Korean electronics giant cancelled the plans after retailers reported lukewarm interest in the new device.

Windows RT is a version of Windows 8 used in devices powered by ARM-based processors, and is used to power the consumer version of Microsoft’s Surface tablet.

However, due to its incompatibility with the desktop version of Windows 8, the platform has received lukewarm interest from consumers.

Meanwhile, several of Microsoft’s hardware partners have been reluctant to make devices powered by the platform fearing direct competition from the Microsoft Surface.
