Nokia has warned investors about the possible risks of competing against a Microsoft-built smartphone in a filing to the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
The filing, republished by ZDNet, raises the possibility that a Microsoft smartphone would compete against Nokia’s Windows Phone 8-based devices, including the Lumia 920, leading to a potential shift in focus at Microsoft that could be detrimental to the Finnish smartphone giant.
“Microsoft may make strategic decisions or changes that may be detrimental to us. For example, in addition to the Surface tablet, Microsoft may broaden its strategy to sell other mobile devices under its own brand, including smartphones,” the filing states.
“This could lead Microsoft to focus more on their own devices and less on mobile devices of other manufacturers that operate on the Windows Phone platform, including Nokia.”
