Andrew Gorecki is the head of Retail Directions, a company that provides management systems for large retail chains including Just Group and Cotton On.
Gorecki says his favourite piece of tech is Microsoft’s Visio diagramming software – not a common choice, but it’s a program he says he can’t live without.
“Many people talk about software engineering, not realising that a true engineer used to be composed of a pencil, eraser and the engineer proper.”
“Today, the pencil and eraser need to be replaced by graphical software and printers, but the essential need to work with diagrams and pictures remains the essence of engineering.”
“The key reasons why so many IT projects fail are the attempts to do complex engineering work without blueprints. It is simply not possible, irrespective of whether you work with steel, bricks, or software.”
