Microsoft is set to unveil Windows 9 at a press event on September 30, sources have told The Verge.
Those sources say that the tech giant is tentatively planning the event where it will detail changes to Windows as part of a release codenamed โThresholdโ.
The Threshold version of Windows is currently in development and Microsoft is set to release a preview version of what will likely be named Windows 9 to developers on September 30 or shortly afterwards.
The release is set to wind back some of the changes made in Windows 8, as well as giving developers a first look at the return of the Start Menu, the removal of the Charms Menu, among other user interface changes.
Itโs not known whether or not the preview will feature Microsoftโs intelligent virtual assistant Cortana.
ZDNet speculates Windows 9 will be the โbridge between Microsoftโs past of big bang releases and a licensing model to one focused on the cloudโ.
