After months of speculation, Microsoft has finally released a version of Office for the Apple iPhone; however, there is currently no version of the app for either the iPad or Android.

โ€œSimilar to our free Office Mobile for Windows Phone that ships with every handset, the iPhone app enables great Office content viewing and on-the-go content editing capabilities,โ€ Microsoft says in a statement.

โ€œAfter signing in to an Office 365 account, you can access, view and edit Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents from anywhere. And, you can count on Office Mobile to keep all your content and formatting intact so the document still looks great when you’re back on your PC or Mac.โ€

Microsoft says that the layout of documents will not be changed when theyโ€™re downloaded onto an iPhone.

โ€œYour formatting and layout remain intact when viewing, editing or adding comments, thanks to support for charts, animations, SmartArt graphics and shapes. When you return to your PC or Mac your document looks like it should.โ€

Other key features of the release include integration with Sky Drive and small screen optimisation.

While strong rumours had circulated about Microsoft releasing Office for Android last year, the speculated November release date came and went without an app being unveiled.

While no version has been released for the iPad and Android devices, the release has prompted renewed speculation a version could be in the pipeline.
