Microsoft could have only sold a million of its Windows RT-based consumer Surface tablets, according to one leading analyst.

According to CNet, UBS analyst Brent Thrill has cut his sales projection to just a million units, halving his previous projection of two million units.

However, Thrill has higher expectations for Microsoftโ€™s Surface Pro series, which will use an Intel x86 processor and will run Windows 8 with full desktop PC compatibility.

In contrast, the consumer version of the Surface tablet uses ARM-based processors and a special version of Windows, called Windows RT, which is not compatible with desktop PCs.
