Group buying site Groupon has gone one step beyond simply selling coupons to restaurant customers and is now allowing anyone to book at specific locations through the site.
The service, according to Mashable, is available only in the United States and is based on tech bought through Savored.com, a site Groupon acquired in September last year.
“We’re migrating the Savored product and inventory onto the Groupon website and it’s going to live as its own distinct channel,” Benjamin McKean, founder of Savored and GM of Groupon Reserve, told Mashable.com.
Groupon chief executive Eric Lefkofsky said in a statement the new tech will help Groupon move away from being just a “daily deals” site to a more general “online deals” site.
