Google to slash 1,200 more Motorola jobs

Google has announced plans to cut a further 1,200 jobs from its troubled Motorola Mobility division.

The layoffs represent 10% of the company’s global workforce and come on top of the 4,000 jobs cut at the division last year.

TechCrunch reports employees were informed of the news through an internal memo to staff.

“Our costs are too high, we’re operating in markets where we’re not competitive and we’re losing money,” the memo states.

The news comes amid continuing losses at the mobile phone pioneer, which was purchased by Google for $12.5 billion in 2011.
