Google has announced that Google Apps users will lose the ability to upload documents saved in legacy Office 97-2003 formats from October 1.

According to TheNextWeb, the change will mean users will not be able to upload documents into Google Apps saved in legacy Word (.doc), Excel (.xls) and PowerPoint (.ppt) formats.

However, users of newer Office formats including Word (.docx), Excel (.xlsx), and PowerPoint (.pptx) will still be able to upload their documents into Google Apps.

Google Apps will also continue to support non-Microsoft formats for word processing (ODT and RTF), spreadsheets (ODS and CSV), presentations (SVG, PNG and JPEG) and text (PDF, TXT, and HTML).
