RSS newsfeed app Feedly claims to have signed up three million users since Google controversially announced the closure of its Google Reader service, as the company launched an updated version of its computer and mobile app.

โ€œWeโ€™ve had two crazy, wonderful weeks at Feedly. Over three million new users have joined Feedly since the announcement of the retirement of Google Reader,โ€ the company states.

โ€œWe are thankful that so many Reader refugees have chosen Feedly for their new home, and are adding hardware as quickly as we can to make that transition as seamless as possible.โ€

The rapid growth came as the company announced new versions of its app for iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Android smartphones and Android tablet, as well as plug-ins for Firefox, Chrome and Safari for Macs and PCs.

As SmartCompany reported yesterday, while the company has announced Windows-native versions for Windows 8, Windows Phone 8 and Windows RT, those versions are still in development.
