This week we may well ask what has the world come to, as Twitter turns seven, Google Plus is now the second largest social network in the world, and kids are becoming millionaires by developing apps and selling their IP and soul to Yahoo!
While people are still getting fired over social media, with the latest doozy being an airport security fella in the UK who got fired for FB posting a photo of himself with a celebrity while on duty. Ellen is still happily employed – with no such social media gaffes – and is this week’s Australian social media queen, dominating the trends and #elleninmelbourne topping Twitter trend lists. (At the time of blogging.)
Kogan decided to add some more damage to the mobile industry (like it already needs more bad news with what they charge for data). Kogan ditched a pensioner by kicking him off his pre-paid mobile plan because he had the audacity to actually use his internet data… What???
North Korea has launched a government innovation plan, and is training an army of computer hackers to launch worldwide cyber attacks. Andrew Auernheimer got three years for trolling and tricking the ATT website into giving away privacy information. It doesn’t seem anyone at ATT got busted. It appears trolling has become a professional crim’s career plan and hacking now an open government initiative.
Julia Gillard’s invited her favourite misogynist, Kyle Sandilands, to be her bunny over the weekend, creating a storm in an egg cup that social media does so well. But seriously, what was she doing after the week that was for the ALP? Bunnies and Sandilands, she’d be better getting her own hutch, I mean house in order.
As if Apple needed any more exposure, a comic book on Steve Jobs has been launched in Japan, while Microsoft’s Bill Gates has announced investment into the next generation of condoms.
The Veronica Mars movie project has raised $3.88 million on Kickstarter. After waiting eons, I got my own Kickstarter investment this week. My Ostrich Pillow: it looks as daft as it is, but comfortable for sleeping at my desk, exhausted after so many social media and digital shenanigans.
I am giving social media a rest and going away for Easter, without a bunny.
Happy Easter to you all.
