Android was the most popular smartphone platform in the US during the February quarter, while Apple remained the largest hardware vendor, according to new marketshare figures.
The ComScore figures reveal 133.7 million Americans owned smartphones during the quarter, representing a mobile market penetration rate of 57%.
In terms of platforms, Google Android fell from 53.7% marketshare in the November quarter to 51.7% during the February quarter. Apple iOS experienced quarter-on-quarter growth from 35.0% in the November quarter to 38.9%.
BlackBerry slipped from 7.3% to 5.4%, although it’s worth noting the BlackBerry Z10 was not available in the US during the February quarter.
Microsoft, including Windows Phone 8 and its predecessors, grew from 3.0% to 3.2%, while Symbian remained flat on 0.5%.
In terms of hardware, Apple led the market on 38.9%, while second place Samsung experienced quarter-on-quarter growth from 20.3% to 21.3%.
Third placed HTC shrank from 11.0% to 9.3%, Motorola shrank from 9.5% to 8.4% and fifth-place LG edged out BlackBerry with 6.8% marketshare.
