Apple has announced that it will build a new data centre in the state of Oregon, with the facility to cover 160 acres it purchased from a local government for $US5.6 million.
This comes after the company has already built giant data centres in South Carolina, which are believed to be where the company handles most of its iCloud-based data storage.
It is understood the temperate climate makes the location a good fit for large data centres.
According to the Oregon news station KTVZ, the data centre was planned under the codename “Maverick”, while the company was dealing with the local government on purchasing land.
