Undersea cable operator Southern Cross cable has announced that it plans to increase its capacity and lower prices.

ย

According to The Register, the consortium intends to increase its lit capacity from 1.4 terrabits per second to two terrabits per second during 2012, while also cutting prices by 44%.

The news comes just days after it emerged that Telstra has been in negotiations about buying capacity on the proposed ASSC-1 cable to Singapore.

The increased competition will be good for SMEs and other Australian internet users, as it will most likely mean higher download limits at lower prices.
