Google is considering partnering with companies in the retail space to take on Amazon’s dominance in the sector, according to a new report in the Wall Street Journal.

According to the report, Google is speaking with retailers, including Macy’s, about creating a new service that will allow users to shop for goods online and then receive packages within a day for low prices.

The scheme would be an attempt to counter Amazon’s success with Amazon Prime, a paid service that provides faster than usual shipping.

Such a scheme would incur major costs, analysts have said, which would make such a venture extremely risky, and potentially incur very high costs.
