Sony chief executive Howard Stringer has commented the electronics giant is looking at how it can build a next-generation television set.

The comments come after Apple co-founder Steve Jobs was revealed to have possibly been working on such a project before his death.

“There’s a tremendous amount of R&D going into a different kind of TV set,” Stringer told the Wall Street Journal. “We can’t continue selling TV sets [as we currently do]. Every TV set we all make loses money.”

Stringer also commented that he had “no doubts” Jobs was working on such a project, but also noted that “it will take a long time to transition to a new form of television”.
