Sony chief executive Howard Stringer has commented the electronics giant is looking at how it can build a next-generation television set.

The comments come after Apple co-founder Steve Jobs was revealed to have possibly been working on such a project before his death.

โ€œThereโ€™s a tremendous amount of R&D going into a different kind of TV set,โ€ Stringer told the Wall Street Journal. โ€œWe canโ€™t continue selling TV sets [as we currently do]. Every TV set we all make loses money.โ€

Stringer also commented that he had โ€œno doubtsโ€ Jobs was working on such a project, but also noted that โ€œit will take a long time to transition to a new form of televisionโ€.
