BlackBerry maker Research In Motion has announced that users will be offered a number of premium apps for free as a consequence of its service outages experienced during the last few weeks.

In a statement, co-chief executive Mike Lazaridis said that the company “is committed to providing the high standard of reliability they expect”.

Outages were recorded in Europe for several days, while some users in the United States and Canada also reported some outages as well.

The free applications offered include the Sims 3, Bejeweled, NVOA, Texas Hold’em Poker, Bubble Bash, Photo Editor Ultimate, DriveSafe.ly, iSpeech Translator Pro, Nobex Radio, Shazam Encore and Vingo.

The company also announced it would provide enterprise customers with free technical support for one month.
