Rovio Mobile, the game developer responsible for the runaway hit Angry Birds, is planning to go public as soon as next year.

Chief marketing officer Peter Vesterbacka has told Bloomberg that the studio is ready to go public โ€œmaybe a year from nowโ€.

The company has exploded over the past two years, with the Angry Birds franchise reaching into apparel, soft toys, television shows and films. Vesterbacka says he is happy with the current valuation of $1 billion, but adds โ€œwe think itโ€™s probably a bit north of thatโ€.

โ€œWeโ€™re insanely profitable,โ€ he said. โ€œWe are very, very profitable. Weโ€™re not a publicly traded company yet but we can fund our own growth.โ€
