Researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology have developed a new system of batteries that are lighter and more powerful that the current iterations.

ย

According to the MIT News, the researchers have developed a system where a โ€œsemi-soldโ€ cell suspended in liquid is able to pump out more power.

Professor of materials science Yet-Ming Chiang was one of the leaders of the researchers, and said its purpose was to โ€œreinvent the rechargeable batteryโ€.

But he then went on to say the battery the team developed is unlike any currently available. โ€œWeโ€™ll figure out what can be practically developed today,โ€ Chiang told the publication, โ€œbut as better materials come along, we can adapt them to this architecture.โ€
