Corporate social networking site LinkedIn has reached the 100-million user mark, the company announced yesterday.
The development comes as the site attempts to prepare for a public listing later this year, one of many expected in the latest boom of tech businesses.
LinkedIn chief executive Jeff Weiner wrote in a blog post that more than half its members are now based outside the United States, with growth in Europe and Mexico.
“We’re now growing at roughly one million new LinkedIn members every week, the equivalent of a professional joining the site at faster than one member per second,” Weiner said.
LinkedIn has managed to continue its growth by separating itself as a more professional social network, as opposed to the more informal approaches of both Facebook and Twitter.
