Yet another rumour has surfaced that tech giant Apple is working on including NFC technology in an upcoming version of the iPhone.

According to the New York Times, sources “with knowledge of inner workings of a coming iteration of the Apple iPhone” indicate that a chip made by Qualcomm will power an upcoming iPhone that will include NFC tech.

However, the report also points out it may not be included in the iPhone 5, which is expected in June.

This lines up with previous reports that Apple has shelved plans for NFC tech until next year, waiting for mobile payments to mature.

The New York Times report claims a user’s credit card information included in their existing iTunes account will be used for the payments.
