VoIP service Skype has recorded a record number of simultaneous users, according to the company, with just over 27 million members logging in this week.
The milestone comes just days after the company announced it had acquired mobile video service Qik for $US100 million.
The incident also comes as Skype is continuing to record some solid growth. Last week new figures showed Skype had totalled 102.5 billion minutes in calls over the past year, increasing the site’s market share of international voice traffic.
Much of the traffic is being attributed to the release of a new iOS app that allows users to make and receive video calls, similar to the Apple FaceTime app.
