Social networking giant Facebook has updated its site with a new feature that will allow users to protect their accounts with one-time passwords.

The feature will allow users to send a text message containing the word “opt” to a special number. If that phone is a device linked to their Facebook account, a temporary password will be sent back.

However, the password will expire within 20 minutes, allowing users to log in quickly without risking someone stealing their passwords.

The feature comes after Facebook has fought off a wide range of criticisms regarding its security system. The site has introduced a wide range of methods to improve security, including the ability to link a Facebook account with only a limited number of devices.
