Over 50% of American SMEs are using social media to promote their business, with 35% of those publishing daily updates to various portals including Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn, according to a new survey.

The new Daryl Willcox Publishing survey reveals 17% of SMEs surveyed use incentives to attract followers, but 60% say social media is impacting their business. Additionally, 46% say their brand awareness has increased.

“The number of companies participating in social media on a daily basis shows the growing importance of this marketing channel,” Daryl Willcox told Information Week. “The fact that 60% have reported a positive impact on their businesses shows [SMBs] are becoming increasingly receptive to the benefits.”

Of the 35% not using social media, 31% said customers donโ€™t use the sites and 24% said they donโ€™t understand the technology involved.
