Computer security firm BitDefender has reported that a number of spam e-mails are currently being sent to iPad owners, encouraging them to download malicious software that is disguised as an iTunes update.
These e-mails contain software that will enable hackers to deliver malware that could provide hackers with unauthorised access to computers.
The firm has warned iPad users not to accept any suspicious links and to always check to determine if they know where e-mails are coming from.
“Backdoor.Bifrose.AADY attempts to read the keys and serial numbers of the various software installed on the affected computer, while also logging the passwords to the victim’s ICQ, Messenger, POP3 mail accounts, and protected storage,” the firm states.
The company recommends installing firewalls and enabling automatic updates for all security software to protect yourself from malicious software.
