The announcement of the Apple iPad device has continued to deliver shockwaves in the tech and entertainment industries, with a number of prominent executives publically stating their opinions on the new gadget.

The result, similar to the opinions released by analysts over the few days after Apple’s announcement, is a mixed bag, with some approving of the device and some dismissing it altogether.

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata said the device was merely “bigger than the iPod Touch”.

Google chief executive Eric Schmidt, who normally does not comment directly on competition, asked what the difference was between a large phone and a tablet at the World Economic Forum.

The relationship between Google and Apple has been soured over the past few months. While the two companies share a business relationship, Apple reportedly rejected the Google Voice app from its App Store last year.

Additionally, Apple chief executive Steve Jobs reportedly said at a company “town hall” event that it would stop Google from dominating the smartphone market.

However, Sony director of hardware marketing John Koiler said he was happy Apple had introduced a new device for the gaming community as it would push more people towards the company’s own PSP console.
