As reported in the Wall Street Journal, HarperCollins Publishers is currently discussing a deal with Apple that would see it produce material for the upcoming tablet device.

The report claims HarperCollins would produce eBooks for the gadget, which would see the tablet compete with dedicated eReaders such as the Amazon Kindle.

But recent comments from HarperCollins chief executive Brian Murray indicate these ebooks wouldn’t necessarily be just text on a screen. He recently stated that “ebooks enhanced with video, author interviews and social-networking applications could command higher retail prices for publishers than current ebooks”.

The comments come as Apple has confirmed a press event for January 27, at which it said it will unveil a totally new product.
