According to new figures from market researcher ComScore, Microsoft Bing has managed to capture 10% of the US online search market.

The new figures reveal Bing gained 0.5% to 9.9% of all online searches, just five months after launch. This means that in less than half a year, Bing has managed to gain two whole points of market share.

Meanwhile, Yahoo’s market share has dropped 0.8% to 18%, but is down 3% for the year. However, market leader Google has continued to remain steady, gaining 0.5% to 65.4%.

But despite Bing’s good news, tech blog TechCrunch has suggested recent efforts by Bing to increase its market share, such as its announcement to index Twitter pages, may not be enough.

“Perhaps it needs to do something radical, like cut deals with major news and media sites for exclusive rights to index their content. Otherwise it will just keep eating away at Yahoo’s slice of the pie, which it’s already been promised anyway.”
