The announcement may have gone unnoticed by many, but Facebook has now released an upgrade to its search page that allows users to search through their friends’ status updates, photos, links and videos.
The move is a clear attempt to catch-up with Twitter, who has dominated the field in “real-time search” – the ability to search status updates and pages as they appear.
“Last month, we began testing new versions of Search with a small group of people on Facebook,” a post on the Facebook company blog said.
“Based on the success of those tests, we’re rolling out a new version of Search to everyone on the site beginning today.”
Social media users have demanded the ability to search users’ status updates, as searching individual profiles for individual updates would be too time-consuming.
