Kobian, a robot that can display seven different emotions, has been unveiled at Waseda University in Japan.

The robot, known as a humanoid, has moving eyebrows, eyelids and a double-jointed neck.

When Kobian wants to display sadness, it closes its eyelids, hunches forward and shields it eyes. For happiness, it opens his eyes and mouth wide and raises both arms in a victory salute. For disgust, it purses his lips and cocks one wrist in the air.

It was built by researchers from Waseda University and tmsuk, a manufacturer based in southern Japan.

The developers believe the expressive robot could be used in nursing.
