Computer manufacturer Dell claims it has made over $US3 million in sales attributed to a company Twitter account.

According to a story in Information Week, the company sells refurbished computers through Twitter on its “@DellOutlet” account, which the company says has over 600,000 followers. It also says sales directly attributed to Twitter have grown to over $US2 million, while $US1 million in sales have been recorded by users who start from Twitter, but buy elsewhere on the Dell website.

The figures are likely to be monitored closely by Twitter, which recently announced that it will introduce products for businesses towards the end of the year to help monetise the site.

Research company Nelson told USA Today that Twitter is attempting to gather feedback from the computer manufacturer.
