Plan to resolve some resolutions

It feels like it was yesterday. There you were at your New Years’ Eve barbeque, counting down to 2013.

New years’ resolutions were exchanged. You swore you would get started on that new low fat diet. You would quit smoking. You would finally get around to repainting the spare bedroom.

And of course, someone tossed out the perennial “my new years’ resolution this year is to not make any new years’ resolutions”. Old Taskmaster remembers back to the 14^th century when that one-liner was last considered witty.

If you’re a regular Taskmaster reader, you might also have a new years’ resolution for your business.

Well, here we are. The new diet will be started any day now. The drop sheets and paint tins are ready, even if the painters aren’t. And by the way, Old Taskmaster has a cigarette lighter if you need one.

The scariest thing is that it’s already late May. The end of the financial year is just around the corner. This means it’s nearly time to battle Old Taskmaster’s ancient nemesis: The taxman.

Aside from getting your financial affairs in order, it’s a good time of the year to take stock of your year so far, both on a personal and professional level. How is your business travelling? Are there areas of concern that need improvement during the rest of the year? And is it time to finally call in a professional painter?

While you don’t need to set decisions and strategies in stone for your mid-year review and budget just yet, it is time to start seriously preparing for them.
