There is nothing quite like first-mover benefits, and here’s your tip that it’s time to get ready to sell in space. PayPal has announced the launch of PayPal Galactic, a partnership with the SETI Institute (yes, the Search for Extra-terrestrial Intelligence Institute) that will prepare businesses for space commerce.
According to a release, PayPal president David Marcus said: “As space tourism programs are opening space travel to ‘the rest of us’ this drives questions about the commercialisation of space. We are launching PayPal Galactic, in conjunction with leaders in the scientific community, to increase public awareness of the important questions that need to be addressed.”
Such as how to buy stuff up there.
The question for business owners keen to make the most of this new opportunity is just how exportable is your product? What do you need to change to make it work if sold and used in space? And is there a completely new product you’d want to buy if you were heading to Mars?
