Entrepreneurship guru Tom McKaskill has a very simple test when he meets a business owner or manager – he asks them to explain, in two sentences or less, what problem they solve.
It’s not easy, particularly if you’ve got a business that spans a number of industries and or has a number of different types of products or services.
However, any entrepreneur who knows their value proposition inside and out – and I am sure that’s you – should be able to distil their solution down pretty quickly.
But that’s not only half the test. The most important part is to ask your staff the same question and see how they react.
If their answers vary wildly from yours, you may have an issue – you’re not all pulling in the same direction and as such the way you approach customers and sell your wares may not be right.
If you do find you’ve got this problem, you’ll probably need to do some serious strategy work to get everyone on the same page, and ensure you are presenting a consistent message to the market.
Hopefully, you and your staff are at one. Regularly posing this question to yourself and your team will ensure you remain there.
Get it done – today!
