Distance running has given me so many things: fitness, focus, and posterior tibial tendonitis, to name a few. I have also gained an appreciation for nice gear. And the Fly running singlet from Black Sheep might be the best piece of kit I own.
Black Sheep built its name on cycling kits, but don’t let that fool you. The brand, based in Brisbane, offers a full range of running tops, shorts, and accessories, catering to aspirational weekend warriors (me) and serious marathoners (the runner I’m trying to be).
Its Fly singlet is top-of-the-line stuff, fabricated from lightweight and breathable Italian fabric. It feels markedly different to the other running singlets I own. Wearing it makes me want to run fast, even when the training plan calls for an easy day.
Many other brands offer singlets with racing bona fides. Ultimately, Black Sheep’s design language won me over. Friendly bubble text on the front and back obscure the fact the Fly singlet is made for serious speed. It feels approachable in a way other performance running equipment does not.
The Fly racing singlet retails for $135. It’s a significant investment, and for me, a real extravagance. Still, the dedicated runner in your life might appreciate one this holiday season. Black Sheep also offers running apparel at a slightly lower pricepoint, with quality training tops starting at $70, and hats for $45.
Founded in 2014 by cyclist and triathlete John Polson, Black Sheep has a physical store in Brisbane, several stockists across New South Wales, and a webstore.
