Shoes of Prey co-founder Jodie Fox has revealed her top tips for unwinding after a long day at work.
Stress and the risk of burnout are massive issues for business owners who go above and beyond to ensure their dream gets off the ground.
And unlike employees, there’s often no one around to make sure the people running the business are looking after themselves.
Shoes of Prey recently expanded overseas and closed a $21.3 million funding round, so it’s no wonder the Australian entrepreneur has got some tricks up her sleeve when it comes to tackling stress.
Here are her top three tips for unwinding after a hard day at the office, as revealed in a recent post on her YouTube account.
1. Keep something at your desk or with you while travelling that reminds you of home
Fox says she keeps a scented candle with her while travelling.
โI donโt have it in my handbag, but if Iโm on the road I definitely always have one with me,โ Foxย says
โIโm often in a strange place, and when I can light a candle and have a familiar fragrance in the room it triggers those senses of homeliness and all those nice things that go with it.โ
2. Meditate or do yoga
Fox says while meditation can be hard when you’re distracted or under pressure, it’s easier than ever before thanks to mindfulness apps like Headspace.
Fox also uses an online yoga service called Yogaglo, which allows her to pick and choose classes to target where stress is affecting her.
“Honestly, it’s been the best thing ever for starting to find that stillness, calmness, for me to get through my day,” she says.
3. Develop a routine
Fox says it can be difficult to stick to an exercise regime, but says regular exercise makes her feel positive and allows her to get a better night’s sleep.
“It really makes you sweat and get those endorphins going,” she says.
“I feel pretty good afterwards.”
The Shoes of Prey co-founder also writes down her thoughts and tries to get as much sleep as possible.
