Top 10 richest postcodes

The Victorian coastal hideaway of Portsea is Australia’s most taxed postcode, with $157,289 of average taxable income per resident reported in 2005-06.

Sydney still commands eight of the 10 most taxed postcodes in the country according to Australian Taxation Office statistics for 2005-06. The gated and leafy suburb of Toorak in inner Melbourne was the other exception alongside Portsea.

The top 10 Australian postcodes by taxable income are;

1. Portsea (Vic) – $157,289.
2. Darling Point/Edgecliff/Point Piper (NSW) – $146,253.
3. Toorak (Vic) – $138,016.
4. Mosman/Spit Junction (NSW) – $126,884.
5. Hunters Hill/Woolwich (NSW) – $125,177.
6. Bellevue Hill (NSW) – $123,664.
7. Vaucluse/Watsons Bay/Rose Bay North/Dover Heights (NSW) – $123,261.
8. Northbridge (NSW) – $114,151.
9. Double Bay (NSW) – $112,074.
10. Palm Beach (NSW) – $109,914.
