The US Federal Court has ruled in favour of TiVo, saying satellite-provider EchoStar and subsidiary Dish Network infringed on several of the company’s patents.
The DVR maker now stands to gain about $US300 million in damages as a result of the trial, which could also affect other cases being heard presently including AT&T, Verizon Communications and Microsoft.
TiVo said in a statement that the decision, which affects infringements through to July 1, 2009, was pleasing. “We will also seek further damages and contempt sanctions for the period of continued infringement thereafter.”
However, EchoStar, which was found to have infringed on a DVR patent which allows users to record one show while watching another, said it was disappointed in the decision.
