Electronics giant Sony has introduced a new touch-enabled PC that can be used as a high-definition television and digital video recorder.

The new Vaio L Touch HD PC/TV will run Windows 7, with a starting price of $US1,300 and will be available next month. It also includes a rewriteable Blue-Ray disc drive and a TV tuner.

Sony’s release comes as a number of manufacturers rush to take advantage of Windows 7’s touchscreen capabilities, with manufacturer Gateway introducing three different touchscreen desktops with price points as low as $US720.

The system also includes built-in Wi-Fi capabilities, and the ability to record up to a terabyte of video, equivalent of about 100 hours of high-definition television.
