The federal government has expanded the advocacy role of the Australian Small Business and Family Enterprise Ombudsman.

According to the 2016 federal budget documents, the government will provide funding totaling $16.3 million over four years to support the activities of the Ombudsman’s office, which is held by Kate Carnell.

The funding will be split evenly over the four year period, with $4.2 million allocated for the 2016-17 financial year, $4 million for 2017-18, $4 million for 2018-19 and $4.1 million in 2019-20.

Carnell, the former chief executive of the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, was appointed as the inaugural Small Business and Family Enterprise Ombudsman earlier this year.
