Training companies that advertise “job guaranteed” had better watch out.
The ACCC has just taken action against Melbourne-based Zanok Technologies and its directors Darley Stephen and Vanitha Darley, alleging that Zanok placed employment advertisements on websites including MyCareer, SEEK and Gumtree, offering jobs in the IT industry.
In fact Zanok was offering “IT training” for which applicants were required to pay up to $4700.
The ACCC alleges that despite assurances from Zanok and its agents, there was no guarantee of a job at the end of training.
The ACCC alleges Zanok’s conduct was unconscionable and misleading or deceptive and that Stephen and Darley were knowingly concerned in that conduct.
The ACCC is seeking to declare that Zanok contravened the law and to impose injunctions, including interim injunctions, findings of fact, and costs.
