Is your business staying open on Anzac Day 2009? Not sure? Well, you’re not alone.

Anzac Day (on 25 April) is traditionally one of Australia’s most important holidays and generally means a day off for everyone. But because Anzac Day falls on a Saturday this year, confusion reigns over whether a public holiday has been declared for the preceding Friday (24 April) or the following Monday (27 April).

According to one NSW business owner, many businesses still have no idea whether they should be staying open or giving workers the day off. “Half the businesses are confused and half aren’t even aware there is a problem.”

The answer is simple – only the Australian Capital Territory and Western Australia will observe the Anzac Day holiday on Monday, 27 April. All other states and territories will observe the Anzac Day holiday on Saturday, 25 April – which means no extra day off.
