The problem is a wiring flaw that can cause extremely high temperatures. Sony Australia said in a statement that the flaw had the potential to affect models that were sold between May last year and July this year.

“Sony has recently discovered that within certain units of its Vaio TZ series notebook, a symptom may arise in which the unit’s plastic could be deformed in the DC jack inlet or LCD surrounding area due to extreme high temperatures,” the statement said.

“In order for customers to continue to use this product safely, Sony is offering a free-of-charge inspection and repair service for units covered by the affected serial numbers.”

In 2006, Sony initiated one of the biggest technology recalls in history after laptop batteries were exploding and injuring users.
